Webcam Flickering in Zoom – Stop It

Webcam flickering is usually a "Power Line Frequency" mismatch (50Hz vs 60Hz) between your room lights and the camera sensor. Againly fixes this automatically by matching your webcam's internal clock to your regional electrical frequency.

Why this happens

  • Frequency Mismatch: If you are in Europe (50Hz) but your camera is set to 60Hz (standard in USA), you will see horizontal bands.
  • Auto-Exposure Loop: Zoom's low-light correction is fighting with your room's LED or fluorescent lighting.
  • USB Bandwidth Throttling: If too many devices are on one USB hub, the camera frame rate can drop, causing a perceived flicker.

Fix it manually

  1. Change Frequency: In your camera's "Advanced Properties" (found in the Camera app or Zoom settings), change the Power Line Frequency to 50Hz or 60Hz.
  2. Disable Low Light Adjustment: In Zoom Settings > Video, uncheck "Adjust for low light" to stop the sensor from hunting.
  3. Manual Exposure: Lock your exposure setting to a fixed value instead of using "Auto."
